Toshi Tsuchitori PROFILE

He started his music career as a free jazz drummer in the 1970s. Since 1975, he has been having Jazz sessions with Milford Graves and other free Jazz musicians. In 1976 he became the music director for Peter Brooks and worked on various projects including 'The Mahabharata'.
He has done extensive research on the world's folk music and dance, especially Asian and African. In the 1980s he presented three ancient works, 'Dotaku / Bronze Bells-Remnants of Yayoi Culture (about 300 B.C.-300A.D.) ', 'Sanukaito / Sounding Stones from the Stone Age', 'Joumonko / Pottery Drums of Ancient Japan (2500-3000 B.C.)'. He searched for the roots of ancient Japanese music. He created Ryuko Gakusha in 1988 with Harue Momoyama in Gunjo Hachiman, Gifu Prefecture and has contributed vastly to the region's culture.
